MARK WALSH JNO-BAPTISTE

In June of 2003 Mark graduated at the top of his class from South Bank University in London with a Bachelor of Science First Class Honors Degree in Civil Engineering. He has one year’s experience as an Architectural Technician in Anguilla and eight years experience as Structural Engineer in two consulting firms in the United Kingdom, two years experience as the Head of Engineering and Construction at the Antigua State College and two years at Morlen’s Architecture Services.

After graduating from South Bank University, Mark soon found work with Ridge and Partners LLP in Winchester where he quickly excelled in the area of Structural Engineering Design. After only two years at Ridge, he was given sole engineering design responsibility of a £35 million high-end residential complex in Ascott. Using his keen eye for innovation and efficient use of computer software, he was able to deliver the project on time and under budget. He went on to project manage a number of successful projects and has over the years developed experience throughout Commercial, Residential, Financial, Hospitality and Education sectors. He has designed structures in all the major structural materials and has developed an avid interest in not only the management and design aspects of engineering, but also in the important area of drawing production management.

Drawing on his life-long aptitude in Computer Technology, he has mastered several software tools that has added value and efficiency to engineering projects. He works in all Microsoft Office applications with a particular strength in Microsoft excel which is used on a day-to-day basis. He uses excel for the financial management of projects, writing basic programs and streamlining design tasks. He has ten years experience using AutoCAD and has introduced AutoDesk’s new 3d Building Information Modeling software called Revit, to two engineering consultancies. Writing and submitting reports, letters, audits, specifications and attending site and design team meetings has been a regular part of his job. In 2008-2009 while working for the world renown engineering consultancy Arup, he project-managed a £40 million secondary school project in Bromley. His responsibilities also were to manage the work of 15 engineers working on Infrastructure, Fire, Acoustics, Venue Consulting, Geotechnics, Structural Engineering and Contamination. In his last assignment at Arup he was designated the role of checking engineer for 22 highway bridges in Canada, where his main responsibility was seismic design.

At the Antigua State College he  was the Head of the Engineering Department.  There he developed skills as an effective manager. In his short time as the Head of engineering he implemented 6 new programmes and two new accreditations. While performing his management duties, he also managed to lecture a full schedule. In his current role, he is Lead Design Engineer and Project Manager, working on all aspects of design including HVAC, Electrical, Structures, Architectural and Management of all aspects of Construction.
